Rebecca Greenwell set to visit Georgia

This weekend, No. 5 Rebecca Greenwell of Owensboro, Ky., will join a couple of her former club teammates on a visit to Georgia. Glenn Nelson/ESPN.com

Georgia football coach Mark Richt and his team are working to secure an SEC championship game berth with a win over Kentucky this weekend. At the same time, a couple of newly minted Georgia women's basketball signees -- Marjorie Butler and Shacobia Barbee -- will be working to lure Rebecca Greenwell, a high-profile class of 2013 guard from Owensboro, Ky., to their school of choice.

All three prospects played their club basketball with the well-known Tennessee Flight based out of Murfreesboro, Tenn. Greenwell, the No. 5 player in the ESPNU HoopGurlz rankings for 2013, is considered one of the best shooters in her class. The 6-foot guard will make an unofficial visit to Athens to watch the women's team practice and take in the football game. Both Butler and Barbee plan to tag along in an attempt to push Georgia ahead in the sweepstakes for the talented guard. In the past, Georgia women's basketball has had a great deal of success recruiting players off the Flight club team. Two juniors on Georgia's current roster, Jasmine Hassell and Jasmine James, played their summer basketball with the Flight.

Battle for the DMV

The annual Maryland vs. Georgetown game is becoming a major recruiting weekend for the two major DMV-region counterparts. With the schools sitting just 30 miles apart, it's no surprise that they not only compete on the floor, but off of it as well and are often recruiting the same elite kids in the region. This past weekend, Maryland was able to avenge its NCAA tournament loss to Georgetown, pulling off a 72-53 win at home. Maryland played host to a number of recruits at the home game, including two of its 2012 signees, Malina Howard of Twinsburg, Ohio and Chloe Pavlech of Cincinnati, Ohio. The Lady Terrapins also hosted one of their class of 2013 commitments, A'lexus Harrison of Baltimore, Md. Plenty of unsigned talent from the region was on hand as well. Class of 2013 prospects Jannah Tucker of Randallstown, Md., Lindsey Spann of Laurel, Md., and Brionna Jones of Havre de Grace, Md., were in the building. In addition, 2014 prospects Ariana Freeman of Manassas, Va., Mychal Johnson of Huntington, W.Va., Alyssa Rice of Reynoldsburg, Ohio and Mikayla Venson of Arlington, Va. were in attendance.

Carter's recruiting heats up

Jasmine Carter of Dacula, Ga., watchlisted by ESPN HoopGurlz, has become a hot name among college coaches with her quality play during the club season. The 5-8 guard was a standout in front of our staff at the EBA Position Camp in September. Since then, Carter has visited Georgia and Georgia Tech in addition to Southern Miss before stopping in Tallahassee to see Florida State on a visit in late October. Just prior to her school season kicking off, she has picked up scholarship offers from both Southern Miss and South Carolina in the past couple of weeks.
