If you think the balance of power in the NBA hardly changes (haven't we had enough of the Lakers?), then you haven't been following high school hoops. For as long as we can remember, the same teams have dominated the national rankings. Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.). St. Patrick (Elizabeth, N.J.). St. Benedict's (Newark, N.J.). Montrose Christian (Rockville, Md.).
Well, things have changed. Findlay Prep (Henderson, Nev.) came along last year and challenged the status quo by becoming the No. 1 team in the final ESPN RISE FAB 50 after beating Oak Hill to win the inaugural ESPN RISE National High School Invitational.
Despite losing All-American Avery Bradley (Texas), Findlay Prep should contend for the top spot in the FAB 50 yet again this year. Of course, all the usual suspects will have something to say about it. And perhaps there's another new power lurking.
We're still months away from declaring a national champion, but the road starts here. We'll spend this week previewing the boys' basketball season by unveiling the preseason FAB 50 and regional Top 20 lists; giving a state-by-state rundown of top players, top teams and more; and answering the five burning questions facing this season.
