Good Counsel defensive back Mike Wallace may not have started the 2008 season as one of the most talked-about athletes, but he is beginning 2009 as one of the hottest recruiting prospects in Maryland.
The 5-foot-10, 185-pound Wallace made news on Wednesday evening when he verbally committed to Penn State.
Wallace received Division I-AA interest early in the summer -- with offers from Army, Towson and Bryant. The senior added an offer from Stanford followed by an offer from Monmouth in late July, but the offers slowed as the season began.
Wallace began getting more interest a week before the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) championship game, when he picked up offers from Stony Brook followed closely by Maine to bring him to a total of seven.
After that, New Mexico and New Hampshire made offers and more schools began giving Wallace serious looks.
Wallace took an official visit to Penn State on Jan. 16 and according to line coach Kevin McFadden the Nitanny Lions offered Wallace on the visit.
