Ken Bosic's 2008 season came to a tearful end. Clear Spring coach Craig Bathgate is hoping for a better outcome for the 5-foot-11, 215-pound fullback/linebacker in 2009.
In only six and a half games, Bosic was the Blazers' leading rusher (more than 800 yards) and tackler (nearly 75 tackles). Then, at halftime of the seventh game, a sprained MCL in his left knee brought a halt to Bosic's season.
"He sprained it early in the year and it kept getting worse and worse," said Bathgate, who even limited Bosic's practice time hoping to keep the Clear Spring's workhorse in action the entire season. "We're 1-5 and he's thinking about giving up walking again to track back out on the field. That shows you want kind of kid he is. But he couldn't do it any more. He didn't want to hear that, but he was done."
With the injury behind him, Bosic, who grew up in the Linganore area and was exposed to youth football -- something unfamiliar to most Clear Spring players -- is focused on the 2009 campaign.
"He's in the weight room more than anyone, and just as often as I am," Bathgate said. "He's a natural leader and he leads by example with incredible work ethic."
Bosic plays middle linebacker at Clear Spring. He was an honorable mention all-league pick last season despite missing more than three games. He projects as a small college linebacker.
During Clear Spring's brief football history, it has sent only one player into the college football ranks -- Jesse Jarvis at Division III McDaniel College. Bathgate figures Bosic can be a Division III middle linebacker.
"He'll run through walls for you and not think twice," Bathgate said. "Now he's back to doing squats and dead lifts, and he's ready to go."
