Three passy-happy quarterbacks who combined for 1,123 yards and a running back who racked up 391 rushing yards highlight the ESPN RISE Regional Players of the Week.
East Region Player of the Week
DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.)
Committed to Iowa, Coker rushed for 391 yards and five touchdowns in DeMatha's 56-35 victory over Gilman (Baltimore, Md.) in a battle between two of Maryland's top programs. Coker's rushing performance ranks No. 4 all-time in state history.
Southeast Region Player of the Week
Butler (Matthews, N.C.)
LeMay is one of the top-ranked quarterback recruits in the nation and had a signature outing to lead his team past defending state champ Richmond Senior (Rockingham, N.C.), 38-31. LeMay, who attended last summer's Elite 11 quarterback camp as a ball boy, led the Bulldogs (3-0) back from a 31-17 deficit heading into the fourth quarter by directing three straight scoring drives capped off by touchdown passes of 19, 58 and 45 yards. He ended the game with 318 passing yards and four touchdowns and ran for another score.
Midwest Region Player of the Week
Glenville (Cleveland, Ohio)
One of the most versatile players in the nation, the 5-foot-11, 175-pound senior did a little bit of everything as Glenville topped Wayne (Huber Heights, Ohio) in a 57-28 shootout. Bryant, who reportedly has offers from Illinois, Michigan State, Ohio State, Tennessee as a defensive back, threw a touchdown pass, ran for a score, returned an interception for a touchdown and kicked a field goal. Glenville won its second straight game after a one-point season-opening loss to FAB 50-ranked St. Ignatius (Cleveland, Ohio).
Southwest Region Player of the Week
Denton Ryan (Denton, Texas)
Young earns the Southwest award for the second straight week. After throwing six touchdown passes in each of his first two games, Young was even better this past weekend. The Texas Tech recruit completed 27-of-41 passes for 541 yards and tied a state record with eight touchdown passes as Denton Ryan outlasted McKinney (McKinney, Texas), 70-63.
West Region Player of the Week
Spanish Fork (Spanish Fork, Utah)
Nielsen is definitely a recruit to keep an eye on for the Class of 2012. The sophomore quarterback already had a 351-yard, four-touchdown passing outing heading into last Friday's game against Box Elder (Brigham City, Utah) and ended up completing 16-of-21 passes for 264 yards and six touchdowns in a 48-14 win.
