The race for the nation's top SPARQ Rating and a berth at the first-ever SPARQ Rating National Championship this summer in Oregon continues as the 2010 Nike Football Combine rolls through Ohio and Eastern Pennsylvania this weekend. Some of the top talent in both of these tradition-rich states will be present and ESPN RISE will spotlights the top prospects expected to attend below.
Ohio (Massillon Indoor complex)
Doran Grant - St. Vincents-St. Mary's (Akron, Ohio) DB
Grant could very easily be the one of the top prospects in Ohio and top defensive backs in the nation, already holding over 20 offers. Grant is a veteran of the Nike Combine, having attended each of the past three years and posting 109.17 SPARQ Rating as a junior, so he should be squarely in the mix for a spot at the SPARQ Rating National Championship this summer. A few schools to offer include Georgia, Michigan, USC, Cal and Ohio State.
Rico Butler - Hilliard-Davison (Hilliard, Ohio) RB
Butler helped Hilliard Davidson to a state championship this fall, rushing for 600 yards and nine touchdowns as a junior. Already Illinois, West Virginia and Indiana have extended offers his way. At last year's combine in Cincinnati, he ran a 4.60 40 and will look to improve on this.
Nicholas Grigsby - Trotwood Madison (Trotwood, Ohio) LB
At last year's Nike Combine in Cincinnati, Grigsby had one of the top ratings for underclassmen with a 82.56. Had a solid junior campaign and currently holds offers from Toledo, Buffalo and Bowling Green.
Delonte Hollowall - Cass Tech (Detroit, Mich.) DB
Cass Tech continuously turns out division one prospects each year and this year their best is Michigan commit Hollowell. He has been a dominate player over the past two years with 10 career interceptions.
Byron Thompson - Springfield (Springfield, Ohio) WR
Thompson has been drawing heavy interest from Iowa, Wisconsin and Cincinnati with one school, West Virginia, having offered. He is a bigger receiver (6-2, 190) that could fit well in a spread offense and has experience starting since sophomore year.
Shaq Washington - Maple Heights (Maple Heights, Ohio) ATH
An all-state performer and Cleveland-area Offensive Player of the Year by The Plain-Dealer as a junior at quarterback, this speedy 5-8, 155 pound dynamo will likely play slot receiver in college. Had a 74.34 SPARQ Rating last year and West Virginia and others have offered.
Philadelphia (NovaCare Center)
Dexter Bridge - Upper Merion (King of Prussia, Pa.) WR
Bridge is another talented WR from the region that is being heavily recruited with offers from North Carolina State and Illinois.
Damiere Byrd - Timber Creek (Sicklerville, N.J.) WR
The speedy receiver ran a 4.55 forty last year at the Philadelphia Nike Combine and put another solid performance this past year rushing and receiving for over 600 yards. Bryd has a very impressive list of offers with Stanford, South Carolina, Rutgers, Maryland and Duke a few worth mentioning. He will look to improve on his 82.33 SPARQ rating from a year ago.
Miles Shuler - Long Branch (Long Branch, N.J.) ATH
With a list of offers that includes Pitt, UConn, Michigan, Stanford and Boston College, Shuler is already considered on of New Jersey's top recruits and if he tops his 99.69 SPARQ Rating from a year ago, he could move into discussion amongst the nation's best.
Robert Terrell - Susquehanna Township (Harrisburg, Pa.) LB
Terrell earned multiple all-state honors as a junior and has early offers from Pittsburgh and Penn State. As a junior the hard-nosed LB accounted for 42 tackles and 7 sacks for the Indians.
Devante Waugh - Winslow (Atco, N.J.) WR
Waugh was an all-conference receiver as a junior, catching an impressive 83 passes for 950 yards. Louisville is the only school to jump on board with an offer with things expected to pick up for the talented Waugh.
