Sound Clash is a regular lifestyle feature in which ESPN RISE Magazine lifestyle editor Jay Corbin and senior writer Jon Mahoney chop it up about new music.
Corbin: Mahoney, have you heard that new Kanye single "Love Lockdown" that is polluting the airwaves?
Mahoney: Jay, I love all things Kanye, but this might be one of the worst hip-hop songs I've heard in a long time. Then again, I don't even know if I'd categorize as hip-hop. Does Billboard have a garbage chart?
Corbin: It's not very often I agree with you, but I have your back on this one. I thought that Soulja Boy was the death of hip-hop, but now it's that T-Pain voice effect program Auto Tune. First T-Pain, then Lil Wayne, now Kanye. Can you say attack of the Drones?
Mahoney: Seriously. Nobody seems to like it, yet they keep producing. 50 even does it on the new G-Unit album. I will say that the only Auto Tone effect I like is Lil Wayne in "Lollipop." Of course, I shouldn't be surprised. Everything Weezy touches turns to gold right now. But that doesn't mean you should do it too, Kanye!
Corbin: This song won't come close to being on my playlist, and I think I Kanye slid down on my list of top rappers in the game. I gotta go, about to listen to LL Cool J's "Exit 13," wish me luck.
