California Chrome, the dual classic winner and 2014 Horse of the Year, continued to prepare for an appearance in the Dubai World Cup with a five-furlong workout in 1:00 at Los Alamitos Racecourse Feb. 27.
Trainer Art Sherman said he was pleased with the Lucky Pulpit colt's breeze, which was the eighth fastest of 36 works at the Southern California track and followed a four-furlong jaunt by the colt in :48 4/5 seconds Feb. 21.
"He's been pretty darn good," Sherman said. "He's right on schedule."
Sherman said the California-bred 4-year-old owned by Steve Coburn and Perry Martin will continue to work locally until he ships to Dubai March 17. Then he'll get a breeze over Meydan Racecourse's main track in preparation for the $10 million World Cup March 28.
"We'll blow him out [after he arrives in Dubai]," Sherman said. "It won't be too long. Probably a half-mile to get him ready."
