'Macho Man' works at Gulfstream

Reeves Thoroughbreds' multi-millionare Mucho Macho Man breezed five furlongs in 1:02 the morning of Feb. 23 at Gulfstream Park, prepping for a probable start in the $300,000 Gulfstream Park Handicap on March 9.

Hall of Fame rider Edgar Prado was aboard, as he was for the 5-year-old son of Macho Uno's previous two workouts.

I thought he worked great today," trainer Kathy Ritvo said. "I nominated him [to the Gulfstream Park Handicap] and that's our next goal if everything continues to go well."

Should Mucho Macho Man run in the mile handicap, it would set up a rematch with Fort Larned, who defeated the big bay son of Macho Uno by just a half-length in the Nov. 3 Breeders' Cup Classic after a stirring stretch-long duel at Santa Anita Park.

Mucho Macho Man finished seventh while favored in the Florida Sunshine Millions Classic at Gulfstream on Jan. 19, a rare off-the-board finish his trainer attributes to a dislike for the sloppy track.

The Florida-bred was equipped with blinkers in that race, but did not wear them in this recent workout.
