WinStar Name Game winner announced

The winner of The Victory Gallop Name Game, a promotional contest presented by WinStar Farm to name a Victory Gallop Colt out of Lady of The Lake, was announced by Doug Cauthen, WinStar Farm President, live Saturday June 8, on the ESPN broadcast of The Belmont Stakes Special.

The winning name, WinVictus, was submitted by Georgia Dupius, of Somis CA. "invictus" is Latin for Victory andWinVictus is a great play on the WinStar name.

The winner will receive an all expense paid trip for two to Lexington, two nights stay at the Embassy Suites Lexington, Dinner at Roy's East High Street Diner and The Homestead Restaurant, Atour of WinStar Farm and introduction to Victory Gallop andWinVictus to be televised on ESPN's Wire to Wire.

The contest yielded approximately 20,000 entries and 784,000 hits on our website in May alone. The most popular name "Victory Lake" was submitted over 700 times.

"The contest has been a great success for everyone involved. It has given us an opportunity to give back to the racing fans by allowing them to participate in one of the more fun aspects of thoroughbred ownership", stated Doug Cauthen

"Another surprise that came out of the contest was the overwhelming support for Victory Gallop, winner of the G1 Belmont Stakes in 1998. There were hundreds of e-mails saying he was the greatest race horse ever, the most exciting race horse ever and lots of offers to buy the foal" Bill Casner, Co-Owner of WinStar Farm.

Honorable mentions will be given to 10 runners up, including Victory Game, Where's Walden, Gallop Me Home, Ticonderoga, Free Trip, Clear Victory, Groom's Victory and Sword in the Stone. A Victory Gallop screen saver will be e-mailed to all of those who entered and a page will be established on for WinVictus so fans can follow his progress.
