ARCADIA, Calif. - Musical Chimes, the winner of the Grade 2 Oak Tree Breeders' Cup Mile against males on Oct. 9, will not start on the Breeders' Cup program at Lone Star Park on Oct. 30, trainer Neil Drysdale said Sunday.

The 4-year-old Musical Chimes will instead be pointed for the $500,000 Matriarch Stakes, a Grade 1 for fillies and mares over a mile on turf at Hollywood Park on Nov. 28. Last year, Musical Chimes finished second in the Matriarch.

The decision was made over the weekend, ending days of speculation about Musical Chimes' status for the Breeders' Cup. She could have started against males in the Mile or in the Filly and Mare Turf at about 1 3/8 miles.

"She will not run in the Breeders' Cup," Drysdale said. "She stays in training next year."

The absence of Musical Chimes robs the Breeders' Cup of one of the nation's top turf females. Earlier this year, Musical Chimes won the Grade 1 John Mabee Handicap at Del Mar over 1 1/8 miles.

Owned by Sheikh Maktoum al Maktoum's Gainsborough Farm, Musical Chimes has won 4 of 16 starts and $954,489. Last year, she won the French 1000 Guineas.
