Reading the tea leaves of Mike Zimmer's comments, there appears little hope that Teddy Bridgewater will play this season for the Vikings. At the moment, he is sedated and undergoing an MRI. The question turns now to his long-term status. Can the Vikings count on him for 2017?

Drew Brees said he doesn't know the Saints' playing-time plans for Thursday night's preseason finale against the Ravens. "But I know the mindset this whole week has been that we're playing," Brees said. "We had a lot to work on obviously coming off of last week. … The more time we can get together, the better." Earlier Tuesday, coach Sean Payton suggested that the plan right now is for starters to play, including Brees. When someone pointed out to Brees that he hadn't played in a preseason finale in 10 years, he said, "Doesn't matter to me, football is football, a game's a game."

Mike Zimmer calls Teddy Bridgewater's knee injury "significant" and says tests are underway. "Possible" that it is season-ending. Zimmer said he talked to the team and is surprisingly upbeat. Still, a wrenching day for a team with Super Bowl aspirations.
