Rider coach Kevin Baggett told ESPN on why he pulled his team off court: "I decided to not shake hands because I didn't want anything to escalate again between the teams. That's my prerogative to protect my team whether anyone else thinks it's good sportsmanship or not."  Siena coach Jimmy Patsos responded: "That's a pretty good reason," Patsos said. "I like Kevin a lot, and respect his decision."

Great moment at Rod Laver Arena just now. The capacity crowd, told it was Angelique Kerber's 29th birthday after she survived a three-set scare against German countrywoman Carina Witthoeft, joined an oncourt interviewer in singing Happy Birthday to Kerber. The defending champ moved on with a 6-2, 6-7 (3), 6-2 win. Witthoeft, who is ranked 89th, was trying to become the fourth-lowest ranked player ever to topple a world No. 1 at a major.

Tennis

Matt Wilansky ESPN.com

How big of an upset would it be if No. 89 Carina Witthoeft beats Angelique Kerber? Only three lower-ranked players have ever beaten the women's world No. 1 in a major: --No.188 Julie Coin (d. No.1 Ivanovic in 2008 US Open, 2nd Rd) -- No.133 Zheng Jie (d. No.1 Ivanovic in 2008 Wimbledon, 3rd Rd) ---No.129 Jelena Dokic (d. No.1 Hingis in 1999 Wimbledon, 1st Rd)

Houston coach Mike D'Antoni said Eric Gordon tweaked his ankle and didn't have much lift on his shot. Gordon shot 3-17 off the bench in loss to Miami.

James Harden recorded his 13th triple-double of the season but the Rockets suffered a bad loss to the Heat, 109-103. Miami, with the second-worst record in the league, had lost four in a row coming in. Harden finished with 40-11-10, the fourth 40-point triple double of the season for him. That's the most for any player in the last 30 years.

Badgers getting best of defensive battle
NCAAM

Neither Wisconsin nor Michigan has been able to crack 40 percent shooting from the field, but Vitto Brown's 9 points are a big part of why the 17th-ranked Badgers lead 26-21 at half.

The Timberwolves lead the Spurs 71-67 at the half. This is the second time this season the Spurs have given up 70 in the first half. Officiating is very touchy in this one which is partly why Minnesota is 29 of 30 from the free-throw line. The Spurs have shot 22 free throws. If this keeps up, we could be in for a long night.
