Yes, the Texans are (still) leading the AFC South, despite a minus-50 point differential. The other seven division leaders have an average point differential of plus-65.9. The last division winner to be outscored by that much: 2011 Denver Broncos (minus-81).

I asked Richard Sherman what Earl Thomas said when he was laying on the field with a fractured lower leg. "He said, ‘That was a hell of a break by me,' " Sherman said. "And it was. It was a perfect break. He said, ‘I read that.' That's Earl being Earl. He wasn't talking about the injury at all. He said he read that play. He was waiting on that. And he made a play."

Cam: I have to abide by coach's rules

Cam Newton says he was benched for the Panthers' first series for not wearing a tie and he understands why Ron Rivera made the decision he made.

"If in universities we don't talk about it, where else do you talk about it? It's the time to express yourselves. It's the time to have open and honest discussions. It's the time to continue to grow and learn. I've got an extremely bright group of women that are going to do some amazing things on and off the field. I think we are a good representation of what the U.S. looks like." - USC soccer coach Keidane McAlpine on players embracing conversations about social issues throughout season.

The Seahawks are 18-3-1 in prime time games since Pete Carroll took over as head coach. That's the best record in the NFL in that span.

Panthers coach Ron Rivera said the loss was about a lack of discipline. Said the team didn't practice that way all week.

Sheil Kapadia ESPN Writer

The best news for the Seahawks coming out of their 40-7 win over the Panthers is that RB Thomas Rawls and WR Tyler Lockett look like they're going to be factors down the stretch. Rawls ran 15 times for 106 yards and a pair of touchdowns vs. Carolina. Lockett had five catches for 63 yards to go along with a 75-yard TD run. The defense has questions to answer after safety Earl Thomas suffered a lower leg fracture, but the offense is back on track after a hiccup last week in Tampa.

Seahawks rout Panthers 40-7 on Sunday Night Football. The ViewFromVegas is they also easily covered after closing as 8.5-point home favorites and the game went over the betting total of 44 points. Favorites are now 9-5 ATS in Week 13 and unders dip to 8-6.

David Newton ESPN Staff Writer

The Panthers suffered their most embarrassing loss in a season full of embarrassments. The 40-7 setback to Seattle didn't mathematically eliminate them from playoff contention but they are done at 4-8. This one went South when NFL MVP was benched for the opening series for violating a team dress code.

Sprint-out concept on the Russell Wilson TD pass to Jimmy Graham. That's a flat-7 (corner) combination. However, from a defensive perspective, you have to read the pre-snap keys. Reduced splits from the receivers with a back offset. That should be an alert to the sprint-out pass every time in the deep red zone. Seattle is now up 37-7 on Carolina in the fourth quarter after producing almost 500 yards of total offense.

Westbrook just likes to win

Russell Westbrook talks about what it feels like to record his fifth straight triple-double, the first player to do that since Michael Jordan.

The most fascinating part of Day 1 of the Winter Meetings wasn't the Yankees signing of their new DH Matt Holliday but rather the residue of Edwin Encarnacion no longer having the option of the Yankees after losing his opportunity with the Astros just days earlier after they signed Beltran, The Jays pulled their offer of 4yrs $80m leaving a terrific opportunity for teams like the Rangers, Orioles and maybe even surprise teams like the Indians or Rockies to jump in and get an impact bat at a bargain. Amazing Yankees valued pick 17 of first round more than Edwin but understandable if the reason was saving financial flexibility for Harper and Machado who are both just 2 yrs from free agency.

Cardinals QB Carson Palmer was "shocked" that coach Bruce Arians called the fourth-and-1 play late in the fourth quarter. He was getting ready to jog off the field when he got the call. At first, Palmer thought Arians wanted the offense to line up to force Washington to burn a timeout. That clearly wasn't the plan. "But obviously a great call," Palmer said. "Phenomenal execution and Dave (running back David Johnson) did the rest." Johnson ran for 14 yards to keep the drive alive.

Josh Weinfuss ESPN Staff Writer

"It was a gutsy call that I knew coach would make. I mean what do we have to lose at this point? At 4-6-1, we needed to win this ballgame." -- Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald on coach Bruce Arians' decision to go for it on fourth-and-1, which resulted in a 14-yard run by David Johnson.

Sheil Kapadia ESPN Writer

The Seahawks' offense has scored on six of nine possessions so far tonight. The team punted for the first time with a little more than six minutes left in the third quarter. Quite the contrast from a week ago when Seattle managed just one field goal on 11 offensive possessions in a loss to the Bucs.
