Brock Osweiler's in-game quote on rookie receiver Will Fuller: "Will's a very special football player. What people really need to know about him – obviously everybody knows about his speed, they saw him all last season, they saw him at the combine – but it's his work ethic. That's what really makes him special. He comes in every single day, he works extremely hard, studies hard and practices hard. We expect big things out of Will this season."

Vince Wilfork on Brock Osweiler, from the FOX broadcast: "From day one he's been a pro. He came in as a pro. He came in as a leader. You can just see the way he carries himself, the way he practices. He's continuing to get better. I think for us, we're all excited about it. He's excited to play for us. We're looking forward to this season. We're going to get through the rest of these preseason games and make sure we get out healthy. That's the key. I think we have a shot, but we just want to continue to run."

Here is what Yasiel Puig just told me about being put on waivers by the Dodgers: "It didn't surprise me. It's common for all teams to put players on [revocable] waivers. I'm just here waiting to see what the future holds. I'm here in Oklahoma giving my best and preparing to have an opportunity, whether that is with another team or to stay with the Dodgers. I have to wait the pertinent time with the waivers and then wait to see what decision [the Dodgers] make. I'm here to play baseball. That's part of the business of baseball. I came from Cuba to the US to play baseball."

Kaepernick seeking to bring awareness

Jason Heyward might be coming out of his season long slump. He was 5 for his last 5 before lining out hard (102.6 mph) to the end the sixth with the lead run at third base against the Dodgers. Heyward has had at least one hit in every game since getting four straight days off. The Cubs and Dodgers have yet to score a run through 6 innings.

Patrick Reed won The Barclays today -- and with it, received a nice perk of qualifying for the U.S. Ryder Cup team. Rickie Fowler wasn't so lucky. He played his final four holes in 3-over, failing to make his way onto the team, as Zach Johnson retained that final spot. U.S. captain Davis Love III will make four wildcard selections in coming weeks.

Asked whether he fears for his safety when he goes on the road, 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick said he didn't think that would be an issue. "(I'm) not really too concerned about that," Kaepernick said. "At the end of the day, if something happens, that's only proving my point."

Nick Wagoner ESPN Staff Writer

49ers QB Colin Kaepernick spoke to reporters for nearly 20 minutes today about his decision to sit during the national anthem. During the discussion, Kaepernick touched on times he and friends have been harassed by police, his explanation for how the decision to do this evolved, the presidential election, why he did it alone and whether he fears for his safety on the road. "People don't realize what's really going on in this country," Kaepernick said. "There are a lot things that are going on that are unjust. People aren't being held accountable for. And that's something that needs to change. That's something that this country stands for freedom, liberty and justice for all. And it's not happening for all right now."

Nick Wagoner ESPN Staff Writer

49ers QB Colin Kaepernick said he will continue to sit during the national anthem. "I'll continue to sit," Kaepernick said. "I'm going to continue to stand with the people that are being oppressed. To me this is something that has to change. When there's significant change and I feel like that flag represents what it's supposed to represent, this country is representing people the way that it's supposed to, I'll stand."

Rickie Fowler just bogeyed the 15th hole at The Barclays to drop three strokes behind leader Patrick Reed and into a two-way tie for second place. But the subplot to today's event now thickens. Here's what Fowler needs to qualify for the U.S. Ryder Cup team today: Four-way T-2 or better: IN Five-way T-2: OUT Solo 3rd: IN Two-way T-3 or worse: OUT
