Pride the root of Europe's success

A complete unknown and, at first, a bit of a joke, Europe has come together and proved with its win over Sweden and a berth in the finals against Canada that it is the real thing.

On the fourth extra hole, Rory McIlroy rolls in a 14-foot birdie putt to win the Tour Championship and FedEx Cup titles. Oh, and a not-so-shabby monetary prize of ... $11.53 million.

Impressed by the Rams. They were horrible in the opener, but now appear on their way to 2-1. Dialing up a long touchdown pass on third-and-2 to take a 37-26 lead at Tampa? Not bad. The longer Case Keemun can remain viable, the less pressure there is on the Rams to play Jared Goff, who they obviously feels needs time.

50 Cent shows up for the big games. He's here for Cowboys-Bears tonight rocking the black hat with the Cowboys' star.

Tavon Austin, the $42 million man, with his first touchdown of the year, for 43 yards. Wide open, then put a nice spin move on a Bucs DB to score untouched. That may be it.

More flowers and shirts continue to arrive outside Marlins Park by fans as they pay their respects to the passing of pitcher Jose Fernandez.

Matt Bowen ESPN Staff Writer

Chiefs CB Marcus Peters is always around the ball. That's his second interception of the day. But it's also another forced red zone throw (and interception) from Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick. New York continues to leave points on the field and still trail 17-3 in the fourth quarter.

NFL

The Bucs came right back, thanks largely to a 33-yard hookup between Jameis Winston and Charles Sims. Winston ends it by finding Cameron Brate, the third-string tight end, wide open for his second touchdown. Rams deny the two-point conversion, which was big. They lead, 31-26, and it's time for Todd Gurley to take control.

RORY DRAINS THE PUTT!!! Let's play some more!!!! On to the 16th hole and now darkness might come into play soon.

Fantastic play by Robert Quinn. As Gregg Williams has put it, a lot of pass-rushers turn the corner at nine yards. Good ones turn it at eight. Pro Bowlers turn it at seven. Quinn and the truly elite can start turning the corner at 4-6 yards.

Matt Bowen ESPN Staff Writer

Rams DE Robert Quinn showcased his speed, power and counter moves on the strip-sack of Bucs QB Jameis Winston. Quinn turned the corner and got the ball out. That lead to Ethan Westbrook's TD on the fumble return. Turnovers and points. Exactly what defensive coordinator Gregg Williams teaches. Rams up 31-20 in the fourth quarter.

NFL

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

The Rams have taken control. With the Bucs in the red zone, Robert Quinn came around the edge on third down and batted the ball out of Jameis Winston's hands, allowing Ethan Wearbrooks to pick it up and return it 77 yards for a touchdown. They lead, 31-20. Such a great effort by Quinn.

Rory McIlroy is playing for two trophies, the Tour Championship and the FedEx Cup. Ryan Moore can only win the Tour Championship and if he wins Dustin Johnson wins the FedEx Cup and $10 million dollars!!

Ryan Moore drains the par save, Rory McIlroy follows up with his own par. They'll now go to the par 3 15th hole to try and decide a winner.

Two interceptions for Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, four turnovers for the Jets. So much for the offensive juggernaut.

Matt Bowen ESPN Staff Writer

Poor red zone series from Ryan Fitzpatrick. The Jets QB forced a couple throws into tight windows and Chiefs safety Eric Berry came up with an end zone interception. The Jets left points on the field and still trail 17-3 in the third quarter.

Jenna Laine ESPN Staff Writer

That missed field goal by Roberto Aguayo killed the Bucs' momentum. The defense gave up multiple explosive plays on the ensuing drive -- a 19-yard catch by Kenny Britt, a 12-yard catch by Bradley Marquez and a 16-yard run by Todd Gurley. It set up a 1-yard touchdown run from Gurley. Rams now lead 24-20. This is a Rams offense that hadn't scored an offensive touchdown yet this season.

NFL

Matt Bowen ESPN Staff Writer

Todd Gurley fantasy owners are seeing production from the Top 5 RB today. Although Gurley is only averaging 3.3 yards per carry, he is getting high volume touches (22 carries) and has scored two touchdowns. And he still has the fourth quarter to play vs. the Bucs with the Rams holding a 24-20 lead.

NFL

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Perhaps Todd Gurley has indeed been freed. Ran for 38 yards on six carries on that drive, including a 1-yard touchdown run and a brilliant 16-yard run in which he somehow remained on his feet. Rams lead, 24-20.

NFL

Jenna Laine ESPN Staff Writer

Uh oh. Roberto Aguayo just missed a 41-yard field goal attempt in the third quarter, with 4:41 remaining. It's still 20-17 Bucs. He also missed a PAT earlier today. Bucs fans booed. Aguayo grimaced coming off the field. Robert Ayers tried to give him some encouragement.

NFL

Adam Teicher ESPN Staff Writer

Spencer Ware lost a fumble for the second straight game after not losing one during his college or NFL career up to that point. This was was costly. The Chiefs were ahead 17-3 and were about to score another touchdown when the ball slipped from his grasp and went out of the end zone for a touchback.

Michael Collins ESPN Senior Writer

And then there were two!! Rory McIlroy misses eagle putt to win it all but Ryan Moore drains a 9'4" putt for birdie to extend the playoff!!! Kevin Chappell can only manage a par so he's out. Back to the 18th tee!!!!

So now Russell Wilson has a high-ankle sprain on his right leg and a knee brace on his left. Seattle's bye cannot come quickly enough (Week 5). The team faces the New York Jets first.

NFL

Sheil Kapadia ESPN Writer

Russell Wilson left the game for one snap with 9:59 left in the third quarter. He was slow to get up after 49ers defender Eli Harold brought him down. It looked like Wilson's left leg bent awkwardly as he went to the ground. He entered the game with a right ankle injury he sustained in Week 1.

NFL

Tim McManus ESPN Staff Writer

Asked to compare Carson Wentz to Ben Roethlisberger this week, Doug Pederson noted that one of Wentz's biggest strengths is that he "continues to have that vision down the field when things begin to break down." Pretty good example of that on the TD to Sproles.

NFL

Matt Bowen ESPN Staff Writer

QB Carson Wentz showing his ability to manage the pocket on the 73-yard TD pass to Darren Sproles. The rookie stepped up, found room to work outside of the pocket and kept his eyes up the field to locate Sproles. Eagles jump to a 20-3 lead over the Steelers in the 3rd quarter.
