Sad News - C.W. "Skip" Smith

C.W. "Skip" Smith, 70, died peacefully, Saturday, November 4, 2017, surrounded by his loving family at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, after a year battle with leukemia. He is survived by his loving wife Deborah L. (Beach) Smith, whom he married May 24, 1974.

Born October 28, 1947 in Williamsport, he was a son of Clarence and Patricia (Webster) Smith.

Skip was a 1965 graduate of Montoursville High School, a graduate of Williamsport Area Community College, and The PA State Police Academy. C.W. was a Pennsylvania State Trooper from 1971-2005 when he retired as a criminal investigator.

He was a member of Balls Mills United Methodist Church. His love for working on and racing cars led Skip to start his racing career in 1985 at Selinsgrove Speedway (track champion 1987), and continue racing in the ARCA and Busch series from 1994 - 2005, when he retired from racing. He continued as owner/crew chief for his son's racing from 2005-2016 at Selinsgrove Speedway and again won a track championship in 2009. His greatest love was his family and especially his grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to are his wife, are two sons Christopher W. Smith of Williamsport, and Jason M. Smith (Natalie) of Cogan Station, four grandchildren Sophia, Logan , Stella, and Conner Smith, two brothers Michael Smith (Jan) of Montoursville, Craig Smith (Sue) of Montoursville, two sisters Bonnie Barrett of Mifflinburg, and Terry Youmans (Russ) of Montoursville, and a brother-in-law Ronald Beach (Sondra) of Montoursville.

A funeral service to honor Skip's life will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9 at Balls Mills United Methodist Church 5941 Bloomingrove Road, Cogan Station. Burial will follow in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy.

Visiation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Knight-Confer Funeral Home 1914 Memorial Ave. Williamsport and from 10 - 10:45 a.m. Thursday at Balls Mills United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Skip's name may be made to Balls Mills United Methodist Church.
