Mike Trout began this game by walking for the 12th time in 38 plate appearances, but Justin Upton followed with a double, allowing Trout to then score on a wild pitch. Upton is almost solely responsible for ensuring that Trout gets enough pitches to hit.

Mike Trout, who already has a higher WAR than 74 position-player Hall of Famers, said 1,000 games "definitely came faster than I thought. I feel blessed to be up here," he added. "I take pride in coming to the ballpark. I don't take it for granted, because you never know."

Clippers acquire Gilgeous-Alexander, pick Robinson

The Clippers were busy during the first round of the NBA draft on Thursday, selecting forward Miles Bridges with the 12th overall pick and trading him to Charlotte for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. The Clippers also selected Jerome Robinson with the 13th pick.

Seth Walder ESPN Analytics

ESPN's draft analytics model believes the Clippers' selection of Jerome Robinson at No. 13 was a major reach. The model ranked the former Boston College Eagle as the 54th-best player in this class, with just a 17% chance to become a starting-caliber player or better.

Giving up two second-round picks to move up one spot from No. 12 looks like a lot for the LA Clippers, who surely were convinced that otherwise the Charlotte Hornets would trade the No. 11 pick to another team interested in taking Kentucky point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

As if the Angels needed another pitching injury — Tyler Skaggs, who has allowed one earned run in 20 innings this month, has been scratched from his scheduled start with tightness in his right hamstring. John Lamb will start in his place.

Mike Trout's 1,000th game will come as a DH. He has a strained right index finger, the Angels say, and he will he re-evaluated "in a few days" to see if he can play the field.

With the Lakers acquiring the 39th pick from the 76ers for a 2019 second round pick via Bulls and cash according to Adrian Wojnarowski, Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka can add one of the many second-round prospects they've worked out in the last couple months. The Lakers need shooting and are looking for versatility and the ability to perhaps play and/or guard multiple positions. They also have worked out a bunch of big men who have intriguing potential or can stretch the floor and rebound.

The Lakers brought Arizona's Allonzo Trier in for a second workout this week, according to league sources. The Lakers are looking to improve their shooting and Trier shot better in the second workout than his first according to sources. The 6-5 guard's stock could be rising.
