Magic Johnson, calling D'Angelo Russell an "excellent player" with All-Star potential, said the Lakers traded the guard because they needed needed "somebody also that can make the other players better and also [somebody] that players want to play with."

Magic introduces Lonzo as 'new face of Lakers'

Magic Johnson introduced No. 2 pick Lonzo Ball at the Lakers' team facility Friday and, after pointing toward a wall where several retired jerseys of Lakers icons are displayed, said to him, "We expect a Ball jersey hanging up there one day."

Strong comments from Lakers president of basketball operations Magic Johnson on their recent trade that sent D'Angelo Russell, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2015 draft, to Brooklyn: "D'Angelo is an excellent player. He has the talent to be an All-Star. We want to thank him for what he did for us. But what I needed was a leader. I needed somebody also that can make the other players better and also [somebody] that players want to play with."

Angels demote Cron again
