FiveThirtyEight: Is UCLA in trouble?

According to FiveThirtyEight's round-by-round probabilities, UCLA has just a 32 percent chance to beat Kentucky on Friday night. If the Bruins get through the stacked South Region, however, they can win it all.

Players' union director Tony Clark said communication was made with Dodgers 1B Adrian Gonzalez after Gonzalez was upset over a tie-breaker rule that eliminated his Mexico team from the WBC: "We appreciate Adrian and what he brings to the table, not just for his country, but for our game. We understood the comments that Adrian made and did have dialogue with Adrian understanding where those comments came from and why they came in the fashion that they did and are confident that as the tournament moves forward, and that as our game moves forward, that Adrian's support and his place in the game are in a good place."

New Rams RB Lance Dunbar said Sean McVay "had me going" when they sat down to talk about his role on the team. "He had me ready to play. ... They just looked at me the same way I looked at myself." Dunbar, who brings speed and an ability to catch passes out of the backfield, will probably be used similarly to the way Chris Thompson was used with the Redskins. He thinks he can complement Todd Gurley. "We have two different styles," Dunbar said. "If you mix my style with his style, it brings a lot to the table."

Conor Barwin said his free agency pretty much came down to the Rams and Bengals. "Ultimately," he said, "I thought it was the better opportunity for me to be in LA, be in a defense I had success with." Re-joining defensive coordinator Wade Phillips certainly factored into that. Barwin struggled when the Eagles went to a 4-3 last year, but said the tough part was moving to the right side of the field; not necessarily acting as a down lineman. With the Rams, he'll stay on the left side and act as a Sam linebacker. On nickel packages -- which are implemented most of the time in today's NFL -- he'll be a left defensive end (Robert Quinn will remain on the right). "I'll bring a lot of versatility," Barwin said.

USC cornerback Adoree' Jackson grew up near East St. Louis and still rooted for the Rams in their first year in Los Angeles (except when they played the Bills, who had some notable former Trojans). On the possibility of getting drafted by them: "I would just tell people -- they probably won't know -- I played for the St. Louis Rams. ... It wouldn't be bittersweet. I'd be excited. It would be a little bummer, because I'm not back home where I grew up, but I'd still be playing for my favorite team. Wherever they go, I'm there."

With the Lakers set to unveil a statue of Shaquille O'Neal outside of Staples Center on Friday, head coach Luke Walton, who played with O'Neal during the 2003-04 season, was asked about his favorite Shaq memory. Walton said O'Neal once got sick of looking at his beat-up car, so he had his car customs shop take Walton's car and trick it out.
