Ball bounces back, 1 assist shy of triple-double

Rookie guard Lonzo Ball nearly achieved a triple-double in the Lakers' win over the Suns on Friday, shaking off an underwhelming debut from the night before. Ball was one assist shy of becoming the youngest NBA player to achieve the feat.

The Lakers are playing a lot harder and with much more energy and hustle than last night's opener as evidenced by Larry Nance diving on the floor for a 50-50 ball and tapping it to Brook Lopez for a dunk. It won't always look like this because they won't always play the defenseless Suns but this is what the Lakers want to be this season — run, share the ball, create breaks off defense, hustle and display the potential of Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram. They're doing all of that tonight.

Brandon Ingram has responded from his poor opener with his best game yet. He already has a career-high 24 points with 4:48 left to go in the third quarter. Ingram is displaying his potential, scoring inside on drives and posts and burying 3-pointers as well.

Lonzo Ball looks much more comfortable in his second game and had nine points, five assists and five rebounds with one steal and one turnover in the first half. The rookie is much more aggressive looking for his shot, shooting three-for-nine so far but this is an up tempo game against the Suns with very little defense. Both teams put up 70 in the first half. Brandon Ingram also is bouncing back nicely from a sluggish opener with 17 points at the half. Ingram hit six-of-his-first-eight shots and was in attack mode.

Lonzo Ball is out here throwing Vegas-like passes. He grabbed a defensive rebound under the basket and immediately fired a rim-to-rim pass to a streaking Corey Brewer, who was blocked from behind on his dunk attempt. Later, Ball stole a pass on the far right corner by the sideline and in one motion flung a pass up and across the court to Brewer but couldn't get the ball ahead of Brewer resulting in a turnover. Still, these were the types of passes Ball delivered at the Las Vegas summer league where he was MVP and rebounded from a poor debut.

Devin Booker took a really hard spill after attempting a driving dunk while being blocked and fouled by Brook Lopez. He landed on his hip area but got up and remains in the game.
