Rams RB Todd Gurley, on what he has seen from Jared Goff: "He's always one of the first people in here; he's definitely always the last person out. He's just been doing a great job, just learning every day, getting better, in there with the coaches, attention to detail."

Jared Goff, on the difference in offenses from last year to this year: "It's way different. It's a way different offense -- personally, from my brief experience with it. I've had a quicker time learning it, easier time learning it. I don't know whether that's scheme or the way it's taught or whatnot, but I've enjoyed spending time with the coaches and picking it up pretty quickly."

Among thee top five contracts for defensive players, the only one that got done before the fourth year was the one for J.J. Watt, who signed a six-year deal worth about $100M with $52M guaranteed with the Texans. But that was in 2014. It's hard to find a comp so early in a player's career. Donald wants to be the game's highest-paid defensive player, and deserves to be. But what's the incentive for the Rams, who have him relatively cheap for the next two years?

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Rams GM Les Snead said, "We're definitely at the serious stages of renegotiating" Aaron Donald's contract. The Rams have barely any cap space right now, but there are ways around it. Any extension may have to make Donald the game's highest-paid defensive player, at least in his free-agent years. That title currently belongs to Von Miller, who signed a six-year, $144.5 million contract with $70 million guaranteed last July.

Snead on an Aaron Donald extension: "I'm very hopeful that this will get done."

"It has something to do with the contract," Rams GM Les Snead said of Aaron Donald. "We're at the serious part of (negotiations)."

Regarding Aaron Donald, widely considered the NFL's best defensive player, regardless of position: The Rams recently picked up his fifth-year option, which will pay him nearly $7M in 2018, but have expressed interest in signing him to an extension.
