The Angels entered this series with seven consecutive wins, then the Red Sox came into their place and outscored them 19-1 in the first two games. Boston is now the first team since the 2003 Giants to start a season 15-2. They lead the Majors in runs per game, starting pitcher ERA, winning percentage and run differential. Probably a lot of other stuff, too.

Albert Pujols lined a sharp single to center field in the first inning, giving him 2,990 career hits. Ten more and he'll join Hank Aaron, Willie Mays and Alex Rodriguez as the only players to combine 600 homers with 3,000 hits.

The Selke Trophy was one that caused me the most consternation and revision on my NHL Awards ballot. The Professional Hockey Writers Association nominated the Bruins' Patrice Bergeron, the Flyers' Sean Couturier and the Kings' Anze Kopitar. Without revealing the order of my ballot, I'll say that one of those players didn't make the cut for me. My five: the Panthers' Aleksander Barkov, Bergeron, Couturier, the Stars' Radek Faksa and the Wild's Mikko Koivu. My winner? Koivu, who didn't make the finalists. Really crowded field, but I am a little surprised my peers went for Bergeron given he only played 64 games. But his reputation played all 82, apparently.
