USC coach Clay Helton was asked about statistical analysis as it pertains to when to go for it on fourth down. Here's what he said: "One, it depends on what time of the game it is. Are you up? Are you down in the football game? There's all types of decisions that have to be made. Typically, being an offensive guy, I like to be aggressive by nature and go for it on fourth down, but there are times that dictate in the ballgame that you don't. "We've gone for it, I think, four times already this year on fourth time and have been pretty successful with it. Had one in the past game vs. Utah where we had a fourth down and a long three, almost four, on our 38-yard line [Note: it was the Utah 37], but we're up three in that game with a great punter that can pin a team deep and he kicks it to the minus-seven. If you're down in that game, you're probably going for it in that situation. I think situationally, you have to make those decisions as a head coach in that. But in the normal flow of a game, once you get in that four-down territory, depending on whether you're down or up you can be aggressive."

UCLA announced it will host Fresno State in 2024. That makes three games between the two schools on future schedules with games already scheduled for 2018 and 2021. The Bruins have been one of the more ambitious scheduling teams in college football of late. They kicked off a home-and-home at Texas A&M this year and also have games lined up against Oklahoma (2018, 2019), LSU (2021, 2024), Michigan (2022, 2023) and Georgia (2025, 2026) among several other respected Group of 5 opponents.

Which Angels have mastered spin rate?

Spin rate is a relatively new factor of pitching being explored, but those who do it best are finding success. Tyler Skaggs is among pitchers with the highest spin rates on curveballs, while Matt Shoemaker and Mike Morin get more drop out of changeups with less spin. Why spin rate matters (Insider)

Highly-touted UCLA true freshman LB Mique Juarez is enrolled in classes and will meet with coach Jim Mora later this week, UCLA LB coach Scott White said. "The plan hasn't changed at all. The plan has always been for him to be back with us," White said. Juarez has been away from the team for about seven weeks for personal reasons. White said the staff wants to make sure he's ok as a person before bringing football back into the equation.
