LOS ANGELES -- Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said he met with general manager Ned Colletti prior to Saturday night's game against the Washington Nationals and the two discussed possible moves ahead of the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. As a result, Mattingly arrived at his meeting with reporters some 10 minutes later than usual and joked that he was giving media members something to think about.
"We were just talking about stuff," Mattingly said. "There's no breaking news ... yet."
Mattingly cracked a smirk after making the comment, indicating that he's not shy to discuss the notion that the Dodgers will be sellers at the deadline.
"I've never been part of a team that was a seller at the trade deadline," Mattingly said.
Mattingly said he couldn't remember ever being on a team that wasn't buying.
"Really, our discussions are more about what can we do," Mattingly said. "We're trying to find answers, trying to find solutions to situations, trying to look at the now and into the future a little bit."
