ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Los Angeles Angels reliever Scott Downs was unavailable for the second consecutive game due to tightness in his hamstring, manager Mike Scioscia said Sunday following his team's 7-1 win against the Baltimore Orioles.
Scioscia said he is hopeful Downs will be available Tuesday when the Angels open a two-game series at home against the Chicago White Sox. According to Scioscia, Downs will not undergo any tests, just treatment. The nine-year veteran tried to warm up in the bullpen late in Saturday night's game but felt discomfort.
Downs is 6-2 and has 20 holds and a 1.31 ERA in his first season with the Angels. The left-hander ranks second among American League relievers in ERA (minimum 30 games).
