Hanley Ramirez to start Game 5

LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez was back in the lineup for Game 5 of the National League Championship Series on Wednesday and will face Joe Kelly, the pitcher who broke one of his ribs with a pitch.

Ramirez struck out in all three at-bats Tuesday in the Dodgers' 4-2 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. He left the game in the seventh inning, later telling reporters he dealt with intense pain all day.

Kelly broke Ramirez's eighth rib with a 95 mph fastball in Game 1 in St. Louis.

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Ramirez felt better Wednesday morning and was administered some pain medication to help get him through the game. Ramirez also is wearing padding over his ribs, protection in case he gets hit again.

"I think everyone knows the importance of the game," Mattingly said. "He wants to be a part of it, feels like he can do something for us. So, he's in there."

Dodgers center fielder Andre Ethier, who has a microfracture above his left ankle, also was back in the lineup. The Dodgers trail the Cardinals 3-1 in the best-of-seven series.
