Jury finds for NCAA in McNair defamation suit

A jury voted 9-3 that the NCAA did not make a false statement against Todd McNair. The former USC assistant football coach had sued the NCAA for defamation, saying an unethical conduct judgment against him ended his career.

Minnesota Lynx got their 2017 championship rings Sunday, but Los Angeles Sparks got the victory. Chelsea Gray hit a buzzer-beater to lead Sparks past Lynx 77-76 in season opener for both teams. The best rivalry in WNBA got off to another scintillating start in 2018. Sparks did not have three centers, including starter Candace Parker, but forced 24 turnovers. Gray had 18 points and eight assists, fellow guard Odyssey Sims had 21 points, and forward Nneka Ogwumike had 19 points and nine rebounds. Lynx forward Maya Moore had tough shooting day, going 4 of 14 for 11 points. Lindsay Whalen led Lynx with 17 points.
