At the end of the 2016-17 NBA D-League season, the Los Angeles D-Fenders -- the D-League affiliate of the Los Angeles Lakers -- will change their name to become the South Bay Lakers, the team announced Sunday. The D-Fenders currently practice and play in El Segundo, Calif., where they've been headquartered since 2006. Their team colors are the Lakers' purple and gold, along with "South Bay Blue," a nod to the nearby Pacific Ocean.

The inaugural Polynesian Bowl provided a big boost to Pac-12 recruiting Saturday night, as six prospects announced commitments during the game and five pledged to Pac-12 programs. Oregon was the big winner in the conference, landing four-star linebacker Isaac Slade-Matautia and three-star defensive tackle Austin Faoliu. USC received a commitment from three-star defensive tackle Brandon Pili. Oregon State picked up cornerback Charles Watson and Stanford added three-star linebacker Levani Damuni to its impressive class. The highest rated prospect to commit was ESPN 300 defensive end Langi Tuifua, who committed to BYU.
