USC coach Clay Helton was good-spirited when asked about the "noise" that has come as a result of the Trojans' 1-3 start. "I know the expectations of SC and I'm a realist," he said. "We're in a production-based business, if you don't win, especially at this level, there's going to be griping and it's well-deserved."

USC right tackle Zach Banner will be a game-time decision Saturday against Arizona State with an ankle injury. Coach Clay Helton said after practice Thursday that Banner is about 80 percent and if he is unable to play, both Chuma Edoga and Jordan Simmons will play.

Noah Rosenberg, a 12-year-old Dodgers fan from Chula Vista, had a handwritten sign Thursday saying he would do push-ups for a bat. Yasiel Puig told the kid to drop and give him 50. He did and got Puig's bat in return.

Paul Pierce believes anyone -- even established stars like Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan -- can learn from Kevin Garnett: "Anybody can pick up something from an all-time great. He is one of the greatest players to ever play the game. So, whenever you've got somebody that can come in and share some valuable experience, it's a plus. Unless you're already sitting on the sidelines with five championships and 15 All-Star [appearances], and stuff like that, you probably don't want to hear nothing. But, when you have a guy like Kevin who was the greatest at his position, when he talks, you want to listen."

Doc Rivers said he doesn't foresee KG accepting a coaching job this season: "I don't think he wants to coach. He's not that crazy. Who would ever want to do that? ... There's no way that's going to happen. I think he has a teaching future. This [situation] is as organic as it could be. I just told him to come around and figure it out. Do whatever you want. Whatever he does, I'm good with, because I do think he can have a very positive impact on us."

Doc Rivers on Kevin Garnett's presence at Clippers training camp: "KG was phenomenal today. This morning, before practice, he had a teaching clinic that you would pay a lot of money to see. It was great. It was great for Blake [Griffin] and [DeAndre Jordan] and the young guys as well. It's great to have him around. He's a great teacher. We know him as a great player. I knew him as a great teacher. He'll be really good for us."

Four days after Vin Scully called his last home game for the Dodgers, another broadcasting legend will say farewell to his home fans. The Padres have honored Dick Enberg by painting his famous catchphrase on the outfield grass. Oh my!

Paul Pierce says he isn't planning a farewell tour, but he's willing to accept retirement gifts from opposing teams.

Weaver's stock down after rough year

Jered Weaver's five-year, $85 million dollar contract with the Angels expires this offseason. After leading the league in homers allowed (37) and posting a 5.06 ERA this year, there's no way the 33-year-old comes close to that kind of deal again. Bowden: FA value watch (Insider)
