Lakers' first sub off the bench was Jordan Clarkson, whom Magic Johnson wants to compete for Sixth Man of the Year. Before the game, Johnson shook hands with Clarkson but only once he got Clarkson to smile. Johnson told Clarkson he wants the sixth man to have fun.

A buzz circulates throughout Staples Center when Lakers fans started celebrating that the Dodgers advanced to the World Series. The arena then announced the final score minutes later to a loud ovation.

Enrique Hernández has the 11th three-home run game in postseason history. He joins George Brett in 1978 as the only players to have a three-home run postseason game against the defending World Series champion. Brett did it in Game 3 of the 1978 ALCS aganist the Yankees. Hernández has tied a postseason record with seven RBI in a postseason game and it's the most for any National League player (RBI are since 1920). The previous record was six, most recently by Addison Russell in Game 6 of the World Series last year.

Patrick Beverley is already testing Lonzo Ball, picking up the rookie three-quarter court often and shoving the rookie at halfcourt at one point. Ball doesn't have an assist yet in his first eight minutes and has missed both of his shots but he is pushing the ball up and moving t while doing other things like swatting Blake Griffin from behind on help defense and he has four early rebounds.

The Dodgers will make their first postseason appearance in 36 years against either team that wins the AL pennant. In 1981, they beat the Astros, then an NL West foe, in the special division series forced by the split season. The Dodgers eventually met the Yankees in the World Series and won in six games.
