Rams injury report: Several corners were down, including Kayvon Webster, Nickell Robey-Coleman and Mike Jordan. Webster has a bum ankle, but Sean McVay said none of the injuries at that position are serious. The Rams are bringing free agent Leodis McKelvin in for a workout tomorrow nonetheless.

Best play from Rams camp today: It was the very first play of 11-on-11. Sammy Watkins ran a post route. Jared Goff's throw was zipping towards him, and at the very last second, Watkins sprung his hands up and came down with the ball. Goff couldn't help but express awe. "You try not to, but then kind of turn around at everyone like, 'Everyone see that?'"

Trumaine Johnson, on why he has put it on himself to match up against Sammy Watkins in camp: "He's no regular receiver. That's Sammy Watkins. ... You gotta like competition, and I love competition. So of course I'm going to go out there and match up with the best guys."

New Rams WR Sammy Watkins got a lot more involved today. Made a couple of nice connections with Jared Goff towards the middle of the field, and another one about 20 yards near the far side. Trumaine Johnson was constantly matched up against Watkins. At one point, he picked Goff as the underneath guy in zone coverage. Said Goff on Watkins: "He's been sharper than I expected. ... He's been on it; he's been sharp."

Rams coach Sean McVay is learning a little bit more about Sammy Watkins every day. "You can feel his speed and his juice down the field." Watkins caught several intermediate throws from Jared Goff today and was constantly matched up with Trumaine Johnson.

Rams QB Jared Goff struggled during 11-on-11 work the last couple days, throwing several interceptions. "I have to be smarter than that; take care of the ball a little bit better."

The emphasis today, for the third straight day: ball protection. Defenders are continually trying to poke the ball out even after the whistle. Rams fumbled six times unofficially Saturday.

Jered Weaver announced his retirement today after 12 seasons and 150 wins in the big leagues. He twice finished in the top three in the Cy Young voting, but he was also one of the more entertaining pitchers to watch with his unusual slingshot delivery and ability to keep batters guessing. Even as he lost his fastball he remained effective for a few seasons, going slow, slower and slowest and displaying the art of pitching.
