It's been a long time since Rams fans could feel this hopeful. They're coming off a dominant performance against the division-rival Cardinals and are 5-2 for the first time since 2003, with all three phases clicking. Todd Gurley is back to his dominant ways, on the ground and through the air, and Jared Goff looks significantly improved as a second-year quarterback. Their defense, meanwhile, has allowed only 39 points over the last 14 quarters, including zero on Sunday. They went 4-12 in 2016, their first year in L.A., but now they suddenly look like a legitimate playoff contender under Sean McVay.

The Rams proved something, to the US and to Western Europe, on Sunday: They're a legitimate playoff contender. They dominated the Cardinals in every way possible, converting 28 first downs, holding the ball for more than 39 minutes, intercepting two passes and outgaining their opponent by 232 yards. First shutout since Dec. 7, 2014; first 5-2 start since 2003. Amazing what Sean McVay has already done in his first year.

Todd Gurley, 100-plus yards on the ground for the 4th time in 5 games -- after a 20-game stretch without doing it a single time. Amazing.

Atmosphere quietening a little here at Twickenham as the temperature drops and score remains this one sided. Third quarter now over and Rams lead 26-0. Game littered with injuries so far.

Jared Goff threw his fourth interception of the year, with the Rams marching up the field once again. He has five turnovers this year, but three of them came in one game.

A little more of an emphasis to get Sammy Watkins involved today. He had five targets, with three catches for 42 yards, at the midway mark of the third quarter. Only 10 targets in the previous three weeks.

Chargers inactives: WR Dontrelle Inman, TE Sean Culkin, QB Cardale Jones, RT Joe Barksdale, DT Corey Liuget, RB Branden Oliver, T Tyler Marz.

Another really nice drive put together by Jared Goff to start the second half, though the Rams once again had to settle for a field goal. Long completions to Robert Woods, Sammy Watkins and Todd Gurley. Five receivers with at least two completions, with more than 25 minutes left.

Rams center John Sullivan is being helped off the field, with the Rams driving once again to start the second half. Looks like it's his left knee. Austin Blythe would fill in for Sullivan if he's out. Blythe performed well in Sullivan's absence late in Week 3.

Greg Zuerlein, with one of the NFL's strongest legs, finished the first half with a 53-yard field goal. Total dominance in the first half by a Rams team that -- dare we say it -- is starting to round into an elite football team. Defense's front seven has been very physical and the secondary is making plays. Todd Gurley is running hard, and Jared Goff is keeping things simple. That's this team's DNA.

Gurley breaks loose for 18-yard TD run (0:30)

Matt Bowen ESPN Staff Writer

Jared Goff TD run -- off the zone-read scheme. Didn't expect to see that today. But it's a smart call inside the 10 yard line.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Such a great drive by Jared Goff, who finishes it with a nine-yard touchdown run. Before that, Goff had a 15-yard third-down completion to Robert Woods, a 35-yard hookup with Todd Gurley and a 16-yard third-down completion with Cooper Kupp. Goff is going to finish the first half 15 of 23 for 149 yards and, most importantly, zero turnovers.

Beverley: LA is not just a pit stop (3:02)

Patrick Beverley to ESPN: "This is not just a pit stop for me. I want to make LA my home." Beverley also discussed the injury to Milos Teodosic, takeaways from the first two wins of the season, and his approach to games after LaVar Ball said that Beverley won't get interviews after Thursday.

That 18-yard touchdown run was all Todd Gurley, on what looked like a counter play. Did a nice job bouncing it to the outside and beat several defenders up the sideline. That's his eighth touchdown this season -- two more than he had all of last year.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Big hit by Rams ILB Alec Ogletree just as Carson Palmer is trying to throw deep downfield, leading to an interception by Lamarcus Joyner, back after missing the last three games with a hamstring injury. Rams DBs have done a nice job of making plays all year.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

The Rams are getting a little too pass-heavy again, even though they lead. Todd Gurley has run the ball only seven times; Jared Goff has thrown it 17 times.

Aaron Donald picked up his third sack of the year, on 3rd and 11 at the eight-minute mark of the second quarter, forcing a punt. He entered Sunday's game leading the NFL with 36 quarterback pressures, even though he missed the season opener. Robert Quinn has been playing well lately, too, which can take this defense to a whole other level.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

The Rams entered Sunday with an NFL-leading 25 red-zone drives, but had scored touchdowns on only 48 percent of them. They've gained 118 yards and soaked up 10:45 in their first three drives against the Cardinals, but have settled for two field goals in their two red-zone drives. They may need to run it a little bit more with Todd Gurley when they get in there.

Rams rookie WR Josh Reynolds is out of the game with a concussion. He helps mainly on special teams. The Rams also made WR Mike Thomas inactive.
