After kind of sleepwalking their way through much of the first half, the Lakers came to life in the third quarter. Julius Randle provided a major spark with eight points, four rebounds and one terrific block at the rim on a Bobby Portis dunk attempt. Trailing by as much as 19, the Lakers used a 30-12 run to get within one just before the end of the quarter.

Lakers rally late to avoid embarrassing loss to Bulls

After stumbling to a 19-point deficit early in the third quarter, the Lakers turned things around as Kentavious Caldwell-Pope's 21 points and Lonzo Ball's boardwork led a late rally past one of the East's least fearsome teams.

USC is again at No. 11 in the College Football Playoff rankings. The Trojans still have the Pac-12 championship to play, but there remains very little hope they can somehow vault into the top-four by season's end.
