Former Chargers head coach Norv Turner, along with Norm Chow -- who coached Philip Rivers at North Carolina State -- were on hand at today's joint practice between the Chargers and Saints. Turner served as Brees' offensive coordinator for the Chargers his rookie season in 2001 and is a neighbor of his in Del Mar. "They're both ready to go," Turner said. "And to me, I'd expect both of them to have big years."

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, who played his first five seasons in the NFL with the Chargers and still resides north of the city in Del Mar, had this to say about the Chargers moving to Los Angeles: "It's still Southern California. I think it seemed to be a business decision obviously as you move up here. I mean we're not in L.A., right? We're in Orange County, really."

The Rams are officially done at UC Irvine. They will train out of their regular-season facility in Thousand Oaks starting tomorrow, with a light walk-through in the morning and then a flight to Oakland for Saturday's preseason game. Practice was very light today, too. Said Sean McVay: "I couldn't be more pleased with the way the guys competed, went about the meetings, and the way we practiced every single day."

We must remain mindful of the timeline in a situation like Aaron Donald's. JJ Watt is the only one among the five-highest paid defensive players to sign his extension after just three accrued seasons. On the Rams, Tavon Austin and Robert Quinn also got extended heading into their fourth years. They all got done right around the early part of September. There's still time.
