Hollywood United FC's Premier Development League side opened its season Saturday night with a 3-0 romp Saturday night over the Fresno Fuego at Fresno's Chukchansi Park.

Australian midfielder Shay Spitz, who played at Cal State Fullerton, gave the Hitmen a 27th-minute lead, and Jaime Armando Chavez added goals in the 60th and 63rd minutes, soon after Fresno forward Fabricio Codeceira was sent off with a second yellow card.

Former Galaxy midfielder Jose Botello is coaching the Hitmen, which won the Western Conference's Southwest Division title in the semipro PDL, the fourth tier of American men's soccer. Chavez led the club with 10 goals last year.

HUFC, which also fields celebrity and "Sunday league" teams, features former New England Revolution forward and Cal State Northridge All-American Willie Sims and his brother, Oscar.

The Hitmen are among six Southern California clubs in the nine-team Southwest Division; the other five -- L.A. Legends, Lancaster Rattlers, Orange County Blue Star, Southern California Seahorses and Ventura County Fusion -- begin their seasons next weekend.

This week's result (home team listed first)
Saturday Fresno Fuego 0, Hollywood United Hitmen 3 (Spitz 27, Chavez 60, 63)
