Perkins joined his former UNC teammate, James Worthy, to help the Lakers make their final Finals run of the Magic Johnson era in 1991. Perkins is responsible for the Lakers' only win against the Bulls as he hit a late 3-pointer in Game 1 to give L.A. the lead in the final seconds. In three seasons with L.A., "The Big Smooth" averaged 14.6 points per game.
