According to BPI, Norfolk State had a 1.0% chance of reaching the Round of 32. That was the 3rd-lowest percentage among teams that played in the Round of 64, ahead of UNC-Asheville (0.3%) and Western Kentucky (0.1%). The Spartans' BPI of 46.5 was also 3rd-worst among teams to make the tournament, ahead of Mississippi Valley State (38.8) and Western Kentucky (44.8).
