End of Game
Kansas has been eliminated from the NCAA Tournament by a double-digit seed four times in the last 10 years, all of which came with the Jayhawks as a Top 4 seed. That's tied with Georgetown for the most such losses over that time frame.
Andrew Wiggins had his second-fewest points (4) and field goals attempts (6) in a game this season. Wiggins had been much more aggressive since Joel Embiid went down with a back injury, averaging 23 points and almost 15 shots per game in games Embiid did not play.
Kansas shot 27.6% (8-29) when Stanford played zone Sunday, including 18.8% (3-16) in the first half. The Jayhawks entered the game shooting 47.8% against zone defenses, best in the Big 12 and 21st in the nation. Andrew Wiggins and Perry Ellis were a combined 1-of-8 against the Cardinal's zone.
Stanford won despite going 0-for-9 on 3-pointers, tying 1999 UConn for the most 3-point attempts without a make in an NCAA Tournament win.
In what is expected to be his only college season, Wiggins steadily dropped off down the stretch, after scoring a KU freshman-record 41 points in a loss against West Virginia on March 8. His 4 points today matched his second-fewest in a games this season. (line graph!)
Murray State's Damarcus Croaker drives into the lane and finishes with a thunderous dunk over a SIU Edwardsville defender late in the first half.
Robert Williams gets the block on defense, then runs the floor to finish off the long-distance alley-oop against Vanderbilt.
No. 15 prospect in ESPN 100's Trae Young is looking forward to lofty expectations and believes Oklahoma can compete right away.
