ACC coaches on how the Duke/UVa sequel will play out, plus other items

Can Kyle Guy and Virginia do enough to beat mega-talented Duke in Saturday's rematch? Rob Kinnan-USA TODAY Sports

Notre Dame Fighting Irish coach Mike Brey has a unique perspective on preparing to face Virginia and Duke, given that his team had to face the Cavaliers and Blue Devils in a 52-hour span in late January.

"I do want to talk to [senior associate commissioner for men's basketball] Paul Brazeau at the ACC office about that in the spring," Brey joked this week.

Even though the Fighting Irish lost both games, Brey got an up-close look at two of the best teams in the country -- and the contrast between the two sides.

"It is completely different stuff out of two 1-seeds and great teams," Brey said. "The grinding and slower pace of Virginia and then the come-at-your-throat stuff of Duke. It was very difficult to prepare, quite frankly ... We were disappointed with how we competed against Virginia, and Virginia has a lot to do with that. They can take your spirit from you. ... Dealing with both of them in a short window, they really go about their success differently, but they're both really, really good and can win it."
