Michigan coach John Beilein on corruption in college basketball spotlighted by the federal trial in New York: "I know Michigan's clean. I'm not going to worry about any of those other things. For those who aren't clean, we need to get them out of the game. We need to get them out of this thing, so that we can proceed and run all the programs the right way."

Indiana coach Archie Miller on decorated incoming freshman guard Romeo Langford: "There's a lot of hype around him, obviously, being from the state. Going to IU, that's going to make it a bigger story than anything. He's always had a lot of eyes on him." Miller adds that Langford had conducted himself like a normal freshman so far.

Michigan coach John Beilein on twice getting to the national title game and the Big Ten's lengthy drought without a championship: "This is a referee's call, this is the ball bouncing the right way. It will all come back around. Our programs are just too good not to win another national championship somewhere down the line."

Michigan State's Tom Izzo was asked if he feels vindicated that the Spartans haven't been part of the bad news going on at the CBB trial in New York. He said he doesn't feel like he should feel vindication for doing what he is supposed to do. "For me there is no vindication. It's sad what's happened." Izzo said he hasn't been following the details of the trial close enough to comment on what the trial means for college basketball in a larger sense.

Maryland coach Mark Turgeon on a 2018-19 team that includes six freshmen and three sophomores: "It might be the youngest team I've ever had, but they're talented and fun to coach." Turgeon especially likes the length he has on the roster.

Nebraska basketball coach Tim Miles asked about his claim that the Huskers have top-4 Big Ten talent this year: "Pretty sure we were fourth last year, too. We have four guys I think anybody in the league would take. That's not always been the case. I like the direction of their work ethic, their leadership, and that's why I feel so strongly about them."

"Our offense isn't very good," says Kansas' Bill Self. Beware the coach who criticizes his team from the outset. KU will open this season much stronger in the frontcourt than in recent seasons. It may take longer to get there, Self says, but the ceiling is extremely high.

I'm sure the NCAA's new "NET" metric will be an improvement over RPI. Capping a win to only 10 points will decrease it's predictive value which will also muddle things because the metric is used to define the quadrants. This will make wins over a team that usually dominates and wins over teams that only win by a couple points more equitable than they should be.

For those interested: there's a basketball tournament supporting a good cause this weekend in the Bronx. The 13th annual Gardiner Memorial Basketball Classic Tournament will be held Aug 18 & 19 at St. James Park. The free event features some of the top street basketball teams on the East Coast.  It's run by The Gardiner Foundation, a nonprofit group that provides educational scholarships and financial and emotional support to families who have experienced an unexpected tragic loss. Bronx resident Dexter Gardiner created the foundation and tournament after six members of his family were killed in 2006 in a crash on the Bronx River Parkway. At the Tournament, the Gardiner Foundation will announce eight $1,000 scholarships to college-bound Bronx high school seniors and distribute 20 tablets and 750 backpacks filled with school supplies to the school-age children.

Espn no.8 Josh Green cut his final list to six schools. He gives his thoughts to Espn on each program. Villanova: "A great school. They have an extremely successful history, especially over the last few years, winning two national championships. They have a great coaching staff who are very good at developing the team and players and helping them get to the next level." UNLV: "An opportunity for me to be able to get back out on the court with my brother Jay again. This means a lot to me as he has helped me so much in my progression as a basketball player, and I'd love for us to win a Mountain West title and help keep the program getting better and better." UNC: "A program with amazing history and they are consistently successful both as a team, and also at developing players. Growing up as a kid it was my dream school, so it's very cool for me to be able to say I could have the opportunity to play there, and for Roy Williams." Kansas: "Also a school with a history of success, and they have had many good guards come through the school and achieve great things." Arizona: "They have been with me since the start. They have a great program and staff who have really developed players well and have been very successful every year in the Pac 12." USC: "They have already got about the best recruiting class in my age group, and will be a top team in 2019. Their program is very strong and I know I would come out a much better player."
