Wisconsin's Nigel Hayes withdraws name from NBA draft

Wisconsin forward Nigel Hayes told ESPN.com he will return to school for his senior year. The 6-foot-8 forward, who led the team in scoring at 15.7 points per game, had until 5 p.m. Wednesday to withdraw his name from the NBA draft.

"It was better to work on the skills I would need in the NBA a year in advance, rather than three months prior," Hayes said Tuesday in a text. "As a byproduct of that, next year I presume my stock will be higher as well."

Hayes has been a starter the past two seasons and was a key reserve as a freshman on the Badgers' 2014 Final Four team.

Hayes' return means the starting five is back for Greg Gard, who will be in his first full season as head coach. Gard took over in mid-December last season.

With Hayes' back, Gard will likely have a preseason top 15 team and a Big Ten title contender after reaching the Sweet 16 last season.
