Mississippi Valley State suspended coach Chico Potts indefinitely after he was arrested earlier this month on a domestic violence charge, the school said Friday.
University spokeswoman Jennifer Freeman issued a statement on Potts.
"Effective immediately, Coach Potts has been suspended with pay," Freeman said. "This suspension will remain in effect until the university completes its investigation. Associate basketball coach Marcus Thomas will serve as acting head basketball coach and lead the basketball program during the suspension."
Athletic department spokesman Kenneth Mister confirmed to ESPN that Potts had been arrested and charged with domestic violence.
In his first season at the school in 2012-13, Potts guided the Delta Devils to a 5-23 record, including a 5-13 mark in the SWAC.
Potts replaced Sean Woods, who led Mississippi Valley State to the NCAA tournament's First Four before losing to Western Kentucky in March 2012. After leading the Delta Devils to a 21-13 record, including a 17-1 mark in the SWAC, that season, Woods left to coach Morehead State.
