The sophomores did not travel with the team for the No. 19 Ducks' season opener against Georgetown on Saturday morning at Camp Humphreys (Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN) in the Armed Forces Classic. They also will miss significant games at Ole Miss on Dec. 8 and against Illinois on Dec. 14 in Portland, Ore., before returning Dec. 17 against UC Irvine.
In addition, each will have to pay to charity $1,800, the amount they received for selling the shoes. The money will be paid on a payment plan. The person who bought the shoes resold them for $6,500.
Oregon found the shoes on eBay and self-reported the violation to the NCAA and Pac-12. The coaches asked the players about the shoes, and Artis and Carter admitted to the sale. The shoes found on eBay were Carter's.
Oregon coach Dana Altman earlier said the two players have been no trouble since they arrived but they "made a mistake."
