The University of Washington earned a spot in draft history on Thursday.

When guard Markelle Fultz went No. 1 overall to the Philadelphia 76ers, Fultz and fellow former Huskies star Kelsey Plum became the first duo from the same school to be selected as the No. 1 picks in the NBA and WNBA drafts in the same academic year.

Plum got the historic year in motion in April as the first UW basketball player to be selected No. 1 overall, by the San Antonio Stars. Fultz was among those on hand to celebrate Plum's special moment.

The NCAA all-time scoring leader tweeted her congratulations to her "best friend/brother" after he was selected on Thursday.

Plum also shared her advice for Fultz ahead of the NBA draft.

"It's a new phase of your life, so don't take for granted the phase that you're in now," Plum said. "Appreciate every bit of the moment because it only happens once."

The historic moment is certainly one that the UW community will not soon forget.
