NC State tops Arizona (1:10)

Down goes Arizona. The second-ranked Wildcats lost 90-84 to unranked NC State in the Bad Boy Mowers Battle 4 Atlantis to become the first top-10 to lose to a team from outside the top-10 this season. Arizona got big games from Deandre Ayton (27 points, 14 rebounds) and Allonzo Trier (27 points, 5 rebounds), but it wasn't enough as NC State pulled away in the final three minutes.

Arizona's one-two punch the combo to watch

Allonzo Trier and Deandre Ayton will enjoy their first national spotlight of the year when the Wildcats compete in this week's Battle 4 Atlantis. The duo is playing as well as any pair in the country.

Arizona junior guard Allonzo Trier was named the Pac-12 men's basketball player of the week after scoring 32 and 30 points in wins against Northern Arizona and UMBC to open the season. It's the second time he has won the award in his career.

Ayton, Pinder show out in big Arizona win (0:18)

First, it was No. 5 Kentucky that struggled earlier against Vermont. Now, it's No. 3 Arizona's turn. The Wildcats are having trouble separating with UMBC early in second half (which probably means something like a 15-0 run will happen soon).

Kyle Bonagura ESPN Staff Writer

Allonzo Trier is star for Arizona, but it has been more fun getting to watch freshman big-man Deandre Ayton for the first time. It's easy to see why he arrived as the top-ranked center in the Class of 2017 and as Arizona's most hyped recruit in years. He runs the floor well, he's polished around the basket and can dominate on both ends of the floor.

Kyle Bonagura ESPN Staff Writer

A whole lot of good shooting is on display in Tucson, where Arizona and UMBC combined for 17 first-half threes on 28 attempts in the first half. The Wildcats were 9 of 14 from deep and shot 70 percent from the floor (21 of 30).

A highly recruited Wildcat

DeAndre Ayton, who had 19 points, 12 boards and three blocks in his season debut, was the No. 3 recruit in the nation for his class. That's the highest ranking for a player signed to Arizona since Aaron Gordon was fourth in the country in 2013.

Not everyone made it to opening night

The opening night of college basketball was about which players didn't suit up or barely played -- and what that might mean moving forward.
