The best mid-majors belong in Dance

The NCAA tournament is all about Cinderella stories, but the best contestants from smaller conferences often can't make it to the Big Dance. Ten leagues saw their best teams go down in this year's conference tournaments. The Cinderella Sham (Insider)

Can Florida Gulf Coast make a little more history? A top seed is obviously a tall order, but the Eagles looked pretty dangerous as they cruised by 31 over Fairleigh Dickinson. North Carolina is a far different animal, but the Eagles have another dynamic offense and could make it interesting if they can make a few more free throws and cut down on the turnovers.

FGCU adding to big halftime lead

While the Eagles have been unable to maintain their ridiculous shooting percentage on 2-pointers from the first half (87.5%), FGCU still leads Fairleigh Dickinson by more than 20 points in the First Four opener. Follow live

Florida Gulf Coast's Marc-Eddy Norelia is off to a perfect start, and that has his team in position to survive the First Four against Fairleigh Dickinson. The athletic forward hit all seven of his field-goal attempts in the first half, looks confident shooting from the elbow and leads the way with 14 points with the Eagles on top by 21.

Florida Gulf Coast remains in complete control over Fairleigh Dickinson late in the first half, controlling the glass on both ends and getting good looks on offense. The only thing keeping the score somewhat close is an ugly 4-of-15 start from the free-throw line for the Eagles.

Florida Gulf Coast, a program with a Sweet 16 appearance to its credit, isn't showing any signs of nerves back on the big stage. The Eagles opened on a tear with an 11-0 run against Fairleigh Dickinson, and so far look to have an edge in athleticism as well.

Florida Gulf Coast living up to its "Dunk City" nickname as tipoff in Dayton approaches. The Eagles have turned their layup line into nothing but slams as they get loose to take on Fairleigh Dickinson.

Knights given little hope to see Round 2

Fairleigh Dickinson is arguably the worst team in the tournament. If the Knights get past Florida Gulf Coast, our statistical model gives them virtually no chance of advancing to the second round. Giant Killers (Insider)

The Big Dance starts right here tonight at University of Dayton Arena. A packed house is again expected when Fairleigh Dickinson and Florida Gulf Coast tip off the First Four this evening in a city that always supports the event.
