Brey on Colson: "we were able to post him up a lot more. We don't post him up a lot against ACC teams. But this was just throw it down in there today. It was like the Luke Harangody days."

Mine Brey: First game of the tournament, gave everybody a show. That's what we're supposed to do, right?

ESPN Stats and Information

The loss to Notre Dame ended Princeton's win streak at 19 games, which was the second-longest active streak in Division I to Vermont's 21. The Tigers' last appearance in the NCAA Tournament -- in 2011 against Kentucky -- also ended with a two-point loss.

Notre Dame holds off Princeton 60-58 in first NCAA tournament game to go final. The Wynn Theater, where I'm watching the early games, went nuts as Princeton missed a potential game-winning 3-pointer in the closing seconds as a popular No. 12 seed trying to pull off a 12-5 upset. The ViewFromVegas is Princeton point-spread backers did cover as 6.5-point underdogs and the game stayed under the betting total of 134.

This will 61-58 first-round win will go down as the epitome of survive and advance for Notre Dame. The Irish were not terribly inspired, letting Princeton back in the game repeatedly as its typically well-oiled offensive machine sputtered. Were it not for Bonzie Colson and Matt Farrell this could have been a first-round disaster for the Irish.

Indiana boy Devin Cannady had a chance to be a hero there. He has a very good look at the 3 but it was just wide.

Eamonn Brennan ESPN Staff Writer

Notre Dame ran the same post set for Bonzie Colson three times in a row. Took Princeton three times to keep Colson from a catch. Not hard to guess which of the three yielded a stop.

Dana O'Neil ESPN Senior Writer

When the game is on the line and Bonzie Colson is on your team, you go to him. Mike Brey wisely not complicating things.

Dana O'Neil ESPN Senior Writer

We have a little 5-12 magic cooking here. Uninspired effort by Irish has let Princeton back in and the crowd is now pulling for the underdog Tigers.

John Gasaway ESPN Insider

Not sure which is the bigger surprise: Princeton scoring just 0.92 points per possession, or Notre Dame making just six of its first 10 free throws. Strange events do occur in the NCAA tournament.

Dana O'Neil ESPN Senior Writer

Notre Dame has left the door open for Princeton in this half but the Tigers can't quite walk through it.

Dana O'Neil ESPN Senior Writer

Matt Farrell having a Bobby Hurley-esque game you might say. Has missed one shot, dished two assists and turned it over just once in 22 minutes of playing time

Dana O'Neil ESPN Senior Writer

Notre Dame playing with a little fire here in the first half. Princeton is getting open 3s but not hitting - only 5 of 17 at the arc. Still the Tigers trail just by six. The Irish will have to buckle down defensively or hope the Tigers stay cold to avoid a potential upset.

Dana O'Neil ESPN Senior Writer

Notre Dame's Rex Pflueger just returned to the bench. He'd been in the locker room being attended to after getting an elbow from Steven Cook.

Dana O'Neil ESPN Senior Writer

Princeton hasn't shot the 3 well recently and struggles continue early here. The Tigers are going to need to get going on the arc to keep up with Irish offense.

Ben Fawkes ESPN Staff Writer

Notre Dame closes as a consensus 6-point favorite in Las Vegas against Princeton.

First NCAA tourney game I covered was Princeton-Villanova in 1991 (yes dating myself). And here we are with the Tigers again.

Dana O'Neil ESPN Senior Writer

Here in Buffalo where the NCAA tournament will tip off with the upset-laden 5-12 game, this one between Notre Dame and Princeton. Tigers will have to find an answer for Bonzie Colson, which of course most ACC teams couldn't do.

Thursday viewers' guide: Princeton-Notre Dame

The very first game of the day has classic No. 5 vs. No. 12 upset potential. But Notre Dame's Bonzie Colson, among our players to watch, might have something to say about that.

ESPN Stats and Information

ESPN's BPI expects 5th-seeded Notre Dame to take care of business against 12th-seeded Princeton. The Irish are the only team to make the Elite Eight in each of the past two seasons, and they did so as a 6 seed last year.

ESPN Stats and Information

Vermont comes into the NCAA tournament with the nation's longest active win streak, better than Princeton, SMU and Wichita State. Of the four longest streaks, only SMU earned better than a No. 10 seed.
