Bubble Watch: Big East Conference

Villanova remains the only lock for the NCAA tournament from the Big East, but Butler, Xavier and Creighton should be in. Providence joins Seton Hall, Georgetown and Marquette as teams that still have work left to do.

Bubble Watch: How deep can the Big East go?

Villanova is a lock, and Butler, Creighton and Xavier will likely be in the NCAA tournament, too. As for the rest? Seton Hall, Georgetown and Marquette have a lot of work to do.

Villanova leads host team Providence by three at the half, but that number could easily be 13 or more if the Wildcats would just take care of the ball. Jay Wright's team committed 10 turnovers in 20 minutes, most of them in the lane and under duress from a swarming Friar zone defense.

Which team was able to keep momentum going after a monster win this week and which didn't? Tennessee did with a Kansas State win after beating Kentucky while Marquette didn't by losing to Providence after knocking off Villanova.

play
Hart leads top-ranked Villanova past Providence (0:38)

John Gasaway ESPN Insider

Are we being a bit too blasé about Jay Wright's team being ranked No. 1 in the nation and on-track for a No. 1 seed? We haven't seen a defending champion this strong since Duke started the 2010-11 season 19-1. Villanova could repeat.

play
Villanova capitalizes on sleepy Providence defense (0:31)

Dana O'Neil ESPN Senior Writer

Can't stress enough about Villanova, which just got first bench points against Providence. As good as the Wildcats are, they are down two players. Phil Booth out with tendinitis and Omari Spellman was declared ineligible. Team had done so much essentially short handed all year.

Villanova's Hart takes the touch pass to the hoop in transition (0:32)
