With Xavier falling at Providence, there is room for a fourth No. 1 seed alongside Duke, Villanova and Michigan State. Virginia is certainly a candidate after stifling North Carolina. The winner of tonight's West Virginia-Oklahoma game also merits consideration. Interestingly, WVU owns a head-to-head victory over UVa.

Providence takes down No. 5 Xavier (0:31)

Friars snap No. 5 Xavier's 10-game win streak

Kyron Cartwright had 19 points, nine assists and four steals to help Providence beat No. 5 Xavier 81-72 on Saturday, snapping the Musketeers' 10-game winning streak and ending the best start in their school's history.

Providence has been such a strange team this season, summed up by the last two weeks. Win at St. John's by 22, lose by 19 to Creighton, lose at home to Marquette, beat Xavier by nine.

Providence's Bullock gets it done on both ends (0:16)
Lindsey drills corner 3 (0:16)

BIGGEST LOSER (28Dec): St. Johns's and Temple both fell below the cut line with inexplicable home losses. In Temple's case, the opponent (Tulane) was a head-scratcher; for St. John's, the margin of defeat against Providence was unexpected. None of that will matter if Shamorie Ponds' knee injury is serious.

Providence tops St. John's in Big East opener
